| Summer Camp Background |
|
Here is a bit of background to give you a better picture of who we we are, what we do, what we've done and who we are a part of.
We are Gull Lake Centre and we have been around since 1920. In the past we have been Gull Lake Baptist Camp and Gull Lake Camp and Retreat Centre, you may have heard us called Gull Lake Camp, GLBC, GLC, Gull Lake, Gull, or just simply "the camp". On Jan 1, 2008 we changed our trade name to Gull Lake Centre to better describe what we do here. In 2007 we built a new main lodge transforming us from a summer camp that does a few other things on the side to an organization that is the centre for camping, the centre for retreating and conferencing, the centre for spiritual formation, the centre for community and many other things that we could not do before. We are still a summer camp and we offer exceptional Christ-centred camps just like we have for the past 88 years, but now we do so much more in the other nine months of the year as well.
Some other facts: We are owned by the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada (CBWC). To learn more about them click here We are members of the Alberta Camping Association (ACA) and follow their standards which are the highest in the province. To learn more about them click here All of our Cabin leaders are 18 or older. Our camper to leader ratio is about 2 kids per leader on site and 3 or 4 kids per leader (depending on age) in their cabin. Our camping program actually cost about twice as much as we bring in from camper fees. The rest comes from revenue made from renting out our facilities during the rest of the year or from private donations from people who believe that kids need a week a year to get outside, meet new friends and learn about a God who created the outdoors, and friendships.
